Poems for St. Patrick’s Day

Author’s Note

I have been remiss in publishing for a few days, but not for lack of effort. I had an essay whose draft I adapted into a story and there ran into some difficulty. It shall be rebirthed as an essay again, but its resurrection shall take a few more days.

At any rate, I thought this week would be a good time to present a few limericks in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. As a bonus, I have also included an older poem I dusted off.

The limericks were presented to my wife for Valentine’s Day. She asked for a poem; I could not decide upon which ending was best so I let her decide: She picked all of them.

Please enjoy and let me know which one you like best!

P.S. You can find other poems under the Poetry section of this blog.

Limericks

There once was a beautiful woman
Who was sought by no less than a few men
But when push came to shove
She but one man could love
And the rest of the men were just fumin!

There once was a beautiful woman
Who was sought by no less than a few men
But when push came to shove
She but one man could love:
His powers were near superhuman

There once was a beautiful woman
Who was sought by no less than a few men
But when push came to shove
She but one man could love
(For the rest of the men were nonhuman)

. . . And my personal favorite in keeping with Valentine’s Day:

There once was a beautiful woman
Who was sought by no less than a few men
But when push came to shove
She but one man could love
Whose word here her heart did illumine.

My Dream

God gave me a dream. The best dream I’ve dreamed by far.
Not wanting it to bruise or scratch, I placed it in a jar.

Later, going through my things, I saw it on the shelf.
My dream: It did not look so hot; I did not feel so good myself.

While pondering this God spoke and said:
I also want your dream to come true.
That’s why the container I designed to place it in
Is you.
